The first recorded Beaumont was Count Roger de Beaumont of Ponteaudemer, son of Lord Humphrey de Vielles Pont Audemere, grandson of Thorold de Pontaudemer and great grandson of Torf de Harcourt the Rich. Count Roger married Adelina Meulant and later adopted her title of Meulant as it carried more prestige.. Lord Roger being too old at the time of the the Norman Invasion of England stayed behind as the president of the council appointed by the Duke to assist the Duchess in governing. Earl Robert, son of Roger, accompanied William the conquerer in his fathers place. For the Beaumont’s contributions in the invasion they were granted 1000 estates. Robert was so well respected by King Henry the first that upon his death his twin sons were brought up by the King himself.
